 Harp of Christmas Peace

From Diane's liner notes:  "Christmas peace is the theme of this recording, because we have never needed peace more: peace in our world, especially since the tragedies of September 11, 2001; peace in our minds and bodies, if we are ill; and peace in our hearts, which begins with the Great Love which Christmas celebrates."

FOR a "wonderfully calm Christmas season" and the perfect gift to others,  REVIEWER Carol Swanson RECOMMENDS THIS CD on her "CHRISTMAS MUSIC" WEBSITE!….

"Here is a bold statement. Although I have listened to more than 1,200 holiday albums over the years, I can honestly say that I have never, ever heard one quite like Diane Schneider's 'Harp of Christmas Peace.' The unabashed theme of this delicate recording is therapeutic. Seriously.

"Don't look so surprised. No 'voodoo magic' is involved. Dr. Schneider (she has a Ph.D. in Theology, and serves as both a theology professor and chaplain) is a vibration medicine specialist, which means that she uses harp vibrations to resonate with a patient's own rhythms to help release tension and control pain. Hogwash, you say? Don't be a closed-minded ninny! If you scoff at the possibility that beautifully crafted music can work physiological changes, then you have never viscerally enjoyed the pleasurable respite that truly calming songs can bring, and you should just stop reading this review right now. Go listen to heavy metal and keep your headaches to yourself.

"'Harp of Christmas Peace' contains 14 elegant holiday standards and one Schneider original. This is instrumental music by solo harp; the presentations are breathtakingly pure and simple, and the pace is intentionally thoughtful. Schneider arranged these beautiful, old carols at 60-80 beats per minute, with the rate gradually decreasing over the album's course; this approach is designed to calm and stabilize heart, pulse, blood pressure and respiration rates…… Huh? Oh, sorry–the impossibly lovely intonations of "Huron Carol" nearly lulled me right off my chair.
Schneider's "Snow Angels" is the creative flash on this CD, and it really does engender images of bright flakes falling from the night sky on Christmas Eve.

"All kidding aside, this is a wonderful CD with a meaningful niche in the holiday music market. Many of us suffer from chronic pain or, at the very least, chronic tension during the final quarter of the year. How marvelous to have this straightforward Christmas CD lift us from the turmoil, transporting us to a more restful and comfortable place! Think about it–such an experience is truly a tremendous gift.

"Want to stimulate your endorphins? Quick–I prescribe Diane Schneider's "Harp of Christmas Peace" for immediate relief. The prognosis for a wonderfully calm holiday season is excellent."

                                                –Carol Swanson

Peace to us all!Total Running Time: 54:13

More information about The Huron Carol:     This haunting carol originated in Central Ontario, and reflects Christmas as seen through the eyes of the Huron Indians.

Saint Jean de Brebeuf, a Jesuit missionary to the Hurons, wrote this carol in their language as both gift and to help in his missionary and teaching efforts. Pere Brebeuf's carol was translated by Jesse Edgar Middleton who died in 1960. The carol was in recent years included in an album by Bruce Cockburn. It was included in "The Hymn Book of the Anglican Church of Canada and the United Church of Canada" in 1971. It is also found in the Methodist Hymnal. The carol is variously known as "The Huron Carol" or as " 'Twas In The Moon Of Winter Time."

'Twas in the moon of winter time,

When all the birds had fled,

That mighty Gitchi Manitou

Sent angel choirs instead;

Before their light the stars grew dim,

And wond'ring hunters heard the hymn:

Jesus, your King is born,

Jesus is born, In excelsis gloria.

Within a lodge of broken bark

The tender babe was found,

A ragged robe of rabbit skin

Enwrapped his beauty round;

But as the hunter braves drew nigh

The angel song rang loud and high:

Jesus, your King, is born,

Jesus is born, In excelsis gloria.

O children of the forest free,

O sons of Manitou,

The holy child of earth and heav'n

Is born today for you.

Come, kneel before the radiant boy,

Who brings you beauty, peace, and joy:

Jesus, your King, is born,

Jesus is born, In excelsis gloria.

Harp of Hope - Animal Therapy Edition

Dr. Diane Schneider announces the availability of the Harp of Hope CD in a new Animal Therapy Edition. Since its release in 2001, the Harp of Hope CD has been instrumental in bringing calming, restful sleep, and relief of many difficult symptoms to its listeners. The Mayo Clinic shops, among others, have long featured the "Harp of Hope" CD as an effective therapeutic adjunct to human medical treatment. Now the same sound track of the original "Harp of Hope" is being released with new information about its usefulness in addressing similar symptoms in animals.

  • Therapeutically sequenced to promote progressive relaxation
  • Calming effect in waiting and treatment rooms
  • Reduces stress in staff work areas
  • Supports healing in surgical and recovery areas by decreasing muscle tension and promoting sleep
  • Inexpensive and risk-free for clients to use at home with animals

PLEASE NOTE: This is a special veterinary edition of the Harp of Hope CD by Diane Schneider, J.D., Ph.D. The music is identical to the original Harp of Hope CD, but this Veterinary Edition CD contains new liner notes, background, and information for use of this CD with animals.

Harp of Hope: Veterinary Edition is a unique recording of therapeutically sequenced harp music intended for use in veterinary practices, and by those who live with or care for animals, to address symptoms such as agitation, fear, restlessness, sleeplessness, tension, and high blood pressure.

Diane Schneider is a teacher, lecturer, and practitioner in harp vibration therapy. She is currently a Visiting Scientist on the Palliative Medicine Consultative Service of Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, and has conducted clinical research on harp vibration effects upon hospitalized human patients in the Mayo System. She produced and recorded the CD, Harp of Hope; Harp of Quiet Faith, and Harp of Christmas Peace; according to the same therapeutic protocol she developed and uses live at the bedsides of patients.

In 2001, people began to report that they were using the Harp of Hope CD with their sick or elderly animals, especially to help arthritic dogs fall asleep and to calm agitated cats. Diane, who has fostered almost 40 felines over 12 years for the Humane Societies in Toronto and Minnesota adds, I routinely use live harp music and the Harp of Hope CD to relax and comfort nervous or post-operative cats. She adopted "Frosty," found near death in a Minnesota minus-20 winter, after using a regimen of harp vibrations to support her healing. This 1 year old female Siamese mix was able to regenerate three frozen extremities which had been scheduled for amputation, and was also found to have regrown necrotic ear tissue and fur which had previously disintegrated. Frosty, now 8 years old, has always shown a marked interest in music, often lying at the foot of the harp while it is being played.

A review of the literature leaves no doubt that significant human benefit from therapeutic music has been reported anecdotally since before Hippocrates, and documented clinically since the 1950's. Documented positive effects include: 1) Increases in immune antibodies, oxygen uptake, wound healing, relaxation, comfort, mobility in extremities, verbalization after stroke, cognitive acuity, weight-gain in elders and newborns, return to normal sinus rhythm; and 2) Decreases in stress hormones, blood pressure, muscle tension and holding, pain, nausea, respirations, anxiety, fear, depressive symptoms, sad feelings, digestive distress, agitation, sleeplessness, certain Alzheimer's and Parkinson's symptoms including tremor.

While far less clinical research exists on music and animals, controlled studies are increasing. For example, a pilot study in summer, 2003, on canine patients in a veterinary hospital in St. Augustine, FL reported that dogs who received harp music following surgery showed decreased stress and returned more quickly than the control group to normal respiration and decreased anxiety and vocalization. Other studies on cats, cows, rabbits, and horses are emerging with similar positive results. We invite your submission of additional resources or questions to Dr. Schneider at healingharpist@hotmail.com.

From the liner notes: This CD can help you meet the needs of both animal and human clients. Tempos, rhythms, keys, note intervals, chord structures, and plucking techniques have been arranged to promote progressive peace and relaxation by stabilizing blood pressure, and reducing anxiety, pain, and nervous tension. Therefore, it can be used effectively from point of entry in the waiting room, to create a calm and reassuring atmosphere; over a sound system throughout the treatment rooms; during medical or surgical procedures; in the recovery area; or offered to the pet owners for use at home, as a comfort measure and immune-stimulating adjunct to drugs or other therapies.
